Retrograde Venus in Leo: Pride & Prejudice

'‘Summer’' by Alfons Mucha, 1896

Venus/Noga Retrograde in Leo from July 22 – September 4 of this year, begins at 28 degrees Leo, travels back to 12 degrees Leo, and returns to her original retrograde place by October 9.

The retrograde process really began in shadow around June 10, when Venus was at 12 degrees Leo. So in all, the entire pre and post-retrograde shadow and substance period is from June 10 – October 9. That’s an entire quarter of this year!

Venus has her retrograde periods about every 8 years, and since 1959, she has retrograded in Leo 9 times, including the upcoming RX period.

If you have important planetary placements or angles between 12- and 29 degrees Leo, you’ll want to review the following dates for clues as to how this upcoming retrograde period might go for you:

·       August 1 – September 7, 2015 (Retrograde 29 – 14 degrees Leo)

·       August 10 – September 7, 2007 (Retrograde 29 – 16 degrees Leo)

·       August 16 – September 11, 1999 (Retrograde 29 – 18 degrees Leo)

·       August 22 – September 13, 1991 (Retrograde 29 – 21 degrees Leo)

·       August 28 – September 16, 1983 (29 – 23 degrees Leo)

·       September 3 – September 15, 1975 (29 – 25 degrees Leo)

·       September 10 – September 20, 1967 (29 – 27 degrees Leo)

·       September 20 – September 25, 1959 (29 degrees Leo)

Venus won’t be retrograde in Leo again until July 2031. At that time her retrograde will be from 28 to 10 degrees Leo, and back again.

Venus rules romantic love, partnership, diplomacy, all of the arts, money and wealth, beauty, pleasure, aesthetic senses, personal taste, values, and valuables. Venus in Leo is lavish, dramatic, passionate, possessive, jealous, elegant, extravagant, confident, and affectionate. They’re hungry for attention, praise, adoration, and ravenous for respect. Creatively they are divas but never dilettantes, socially they are elegant and gracious.

When Venus goes retrograde in Leo, loyalty and steadfastness is tested. Issues involving children arise. Relationship and responsibility are stressed: as adult children ourselves, towards our own and other’s children, and to our own Inner Child.

Leo is the Fixed Fire Sign: Establishing Inspiration. Leo is Aryeh the lion in Hebrew, this sign roars with exaltation and indignation. During Venus retrograde in Leo, that roaring is sure to become louder, especially if one’s sovereignty or something beloved is threatened.

Leos are proud and passionate, charismatic, and dramatic, natural leaders with built-in star power, king and queens of the jungle. Bask in Leo’s warmth, protection, generosity, and loyalty — or suffer the wrath of outraged royalty, if you dare. Leo is associated with the Tribe of Shimon, whose flag is decorated with the gates of Shechem, where Shimon and his brother Levi wiped out the entire city in revenge for the kidnap and rape of their sister Dinah. Shimon’s murderous rage reflects Leo’s loyalty and protectiveness towards those they feel responsible for. With Venus retrograde in Leo, beware of a misplaced sense of responsibility. Be very clear about what is and isn’t yours.

Retrograde Venus in Leo is all about pride and prejudice. Cultivating gratitude and a conscious sense of humility help steer the ship during this interlude. An open mind and an open heart are the first responders when the prejudice bells go off. Remember you’re totally unique AND you’re human, just like everyone else. Love is multiplied, not divided.
