Tekufat HaOlam תקופת העולם: The Spring Equinox

Tekufat HaOlam ( תקופת העולם ) is the annual revolution of the Sun around the Zodiac. Calculating the chart of the “Revolution of the World-Year” (as it was called by medieval astrologers such as our sage Avraham Ibn Ezra), was done for the time and place of Tekufah Nissan, the Spring Equinox, to determine the nature of the coming year.

Pictured here is the chart of Tekufah Nissan using Jerusalem as the place, at the time of the Equinox itself.

Understand as well that the “Great Conjunction” of Jupiter/Tzedek and Saturn/Shabbtai was used as a celestial calculator of religious and political epochs in relation to the chart of the “World-Year”, for the year in which the Conjunction occurred, and for all successive years until the next Conjunction.

Jupiter & Saturn made the “Great Conjunction” at 0 degrees Aquarius on December 21, 2020. This was the first time the two planets had met in Aquarius since the last time, in the year 1405. This was heralded at the time by me (as well as many other astrologers) as the doorway to the vestibule of the Aquarian Age.

Note that Pluto, the planet of radically transformational change (on the level of death/resurrection, the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes of its own self-immolation), is conjunct the “Great Conjunction” point of December 2020. This indicates a triggering of the radically transformational Plutonian energy over the next 20 years of Pluto’s transit through Aquarius.

In the Jerusalem chart, Pluto’s imminent ingress into Aquarius, which occurs on Rosh Chodesh Nissan (March 23, 3023), falls in the Chart of the World-Year’s Second House of values, valuables, material wealth, and one’s material world. A radical transformation of values – the death of the old, and rebirth into the new – in the sign of Aquarius, known as the zodiac sign ruling Israel (not the modern nation-state, but the people).

The archetype of Pluto also represents fabulous wealth (Pluto is Hades, the mythological god of the underworld who held great treasures in his subterranean palace). In Aquarius that wealth comes from inventiveness, technology, original ideas, and futuristic sources.

In the pshat, Aquarius is humanistic, humanitarian, and concerned with the claal, community, and collective. Pluto uses raw power (think nuclear power; Pluto was discovered in 1930) to achieve the humanitarian, scientific, and advanced goals of Aquarius. Pluto in Aquarius can be a scientific discovery benefiting all humanity, or it can be a politically enforced social policy “for the good of the people”.

When reading this chart, consider Saturn, the planetary ruler of the Jewish people has just entered Pisces. In the Third House of the Jerusalem chart, one can see a struggle between defining boundaries (Saturn) within an environment (Third House) which inherently resists all boundaries, borders, and socially artificial differentiation (Pisces).

Saturn wants to structure; Pisces wants to dissolve and meld together in undifferentiated one-ness. The early stages of this transit reflect confusion between these two energies.

Ultimately though, the work of Saturn through his 2 ½ year-long transit through Pisces, is to structure chaos. The dreamy, idealistic, and imaginative nature of Pisces is challenged to discard that which ultimately has no useful manifestation.

By the time Saturn finishes with Pisces, all the airy-fairy, nebulous, vague, pie-in-the-sky, half-formed, deceitful nonsense being peddled by charlatans will have fallen away. What remains is proven to be viable, sustainable, valuable, and built to last.

The Tekufot / Turning of the Seasons are liminal times. They are the "shkiyah" of the year, the times when spiritual forces are powerful to break through permeable barriers. This is why our ancestors were warned not to drink liquids from uncovered vessels during the hour of the Tekufot. It is wise to consider what you allow to permeate both your mind and your vessel (the body which is the home of the soul during this gilgul/incarnation) during these liminal times.

Blessing all of you with wisdom, discernment, and light in dark places.
